My YouTube channel has officially launched and I’m kickin’ it off with a video on how to make one of my favorite products, Zero Waste toothpaste!

This toothpaste is super quick and easy to make and is an awesome way to transition away from toothpaste tubes that end up in a landfill after using them.

I want to hear from you! What how-to video would you like to see next?

  1. I'm with Laurie! I would love to know how to make natural deodorant. I currently use a natural deodorant but it comes in a plastic tube and I feel it doesn't work as well as I would like. A powerful, natural, and waste free deodorant would be a life saver!

Also with your toothpaste do you find it works well to keep teeth white?

  2. For a whitening toothpaste just dampen your toothbrush with hydrogen peroxide before putting the toothpaste on the brush.

You can make so many 'beauty aids' with coconut oil and baking soda. I use coconut oil and baking soda as a face scrub, it's like microdermabrasion.

Equal parts coconut oil, baking soda and cornstarch with your favorite essential oil make a great deodorant.

  3. Hi Lauren. I didn't have any peppermint so I used oregano oil which was recommended by a dental hygienist to maintain a healthy mouth. Your recipe makes the oregano oil much more user friendly. Thanks for this and I shall get some peppermint oil to try as well.
(We are in our 60 and have always used baking soda and actually wood ash to whiten our teeth before all those commercial products appeared and our teeth enamel is fine. Just saying.)

  4. I'm curious as to where you buy your clothes. They're super cute! One of my New Years Resolutions was to buy no new clothing, only thrifted. What do you do with the pesky plastic and paper tags? I would love to know if they're recyclable, or what to do with them if they're not. Also, bras and underwear. I'm not really down with buying those second hand… Do you know of any good brands?

  5. What coconut oil do you use? It's one of my favorite things for health and beauty care and I can only find it in large plastic jars, I generally reuse them for plants, but they're adding up.

  6. Thanks – I love this recipe! I have been using it since I saw the video. I've sort of gotten used to the salty taste, but is there any way to make it sweeter? I used "real" toothpaste the other day for the first time in weeks, and I was like "omg, I've forgotten how sweet and delightfully foamy it is!"

  7. A bit of bi-carb soda powered under the arms after a shower works well as a deodorant. Compostable cardboard packaging and no need for a complicated recipe. Unscented though, so use a perfumed oil or something if you want to smell different.

  8. For deodorant, I use lemon juice & it works great! Saw a woman on Dr. Oz a while back who said she uses lemons , but I found that too expensive. So I just bought a large bottle of organic lemon juice at Costco. Just moisten a cotton ball with juice straight out of the fridge every morning. It's cheap, simple…nothing to mix.
